Apo Golf and Country Club came up with a strong start in Day 1 of the 65th Philippine Airlines Interclub Seniors Division, scoring a total of 142 points to lead the Founders Division played yesterday at the Rancho Palos Verdes Golf and Country Club in nearby Indangan, Mandug, this city.
Tibor Marcelino led Apo’s charge scoring 51 points while teammates Lando Cachuela (48), Jun Serado (43) and Chito Nucom (35) completed the openign day run leaving past closest rivals Philippine Navy (134) and Mactan Island (130) at second and third places, respectively.
Host Rancho Palos Verdes Golf and Country Club is at fourth tied with Eagleridge Golf and Country Club with similar 129 points. Palos Verdes had scores from Bobby Wee (46), Larry Miculob (44), Ting Castillo (39) and Louie Brodeth (36).
Apo Golf led by team manager Billy Parilla eyes to continue its run for the title at its hometurf today in Toril for Day 2 of the four-day golf spectacle.
Over at the Apo Golf and Country Club yesterday, Lanang Golf and Davao City Golf Club – other local bets also had their way going in the Sportswriters Division.
Lanang is at third place with 122 points behind Fil-am Hawaii (124) and Chamorro (123) while Davao City Golf Club is at fifth place with 110.
