Mayoral bet in ’10 polls, another arrested for drugs

THE PHILIPPINE Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) filed a case against two suspects, including a losing mayoral candidate in Nabunturan, Compostela Valley, for the alleged transport of illegal drugs.
The suspects were identified as Raul Caballero, a former councilor who ran for mayor in Nabunturan in the last election, and Roger Razon, 30, of Barangay Centro, Agdao District. They were sued for violation of Sec. 5, Article II of the Republict Act 9165 or the Dangerous Drugs Act.
Transportation of illegal drugs carries with it imprisonment ranging from 12-20 years and fine of P100,000 to P500,000.
Here’s how the complaint narrated the circumstances behind the arrest:
On July 28, an informant visited the PDEA office and informed the regional director of witnessing shabu inserted inside a brown envelop addressed to Philkor Cars OR & CR documents. The documents came from LTO (Land Transportation Office) Bulua.
The informant said the envelop was mistakenly turned over to him by the driver, Enrique Parreno of the Rural Transit Bus.

The regional director then ordered an entrapment operation together with elements of the Davao City Public Safety Company. At around 8:30 a.m. of the same day, members of the arresting team took their positions at the Ecoland transport terminal while one of them approached the driver to inform him of the contents of the package. The driver agreed to cooperate.
Two hours later, somebody called the driver asking for his whereabouts. Minutes later, a man alighted from a Maligaya Taxi, approached the driver and requested for the package. The arresting then collared the suspect, identified as Roger Razon, who told them he’s just going to deliver the package to his boss “Raul.”
They instructed him to proceed to the area where he was supposed to hand over the package in Guadalupe Village, Lanang. When they arrived, Raul Caballero allegedly emerged from his house and went inside a white car where the turnover took place.
That’s when the team made their arrest.
Authorities allegedly confiscated one sachet of shabu, one .45 caliber pistol whose permit expired on May 10, 2010, two empty magazines, 10 live ammunitions, and three cell phones from the suspects.
