Christopher “Bong” Go exploded anew and the Vice Mayor’s Office put a dramatic end to the PNP selection’s winning streak with a 86 – 77 victory in the ongoing DBL-Phoenix Petroleum 36-Above Invitational Basketball Tournament at the Davao City Recreation Center Almendras Gym on Sunday.
Go was sensational once again as the sweet-shooting executive assistant of Vice Mayor Rodrigo Duterte powered VMO to its second win in two days and snap PNP’s four game winning run.
Go scored 29 points, his fourth 20-plus points performance in the league, 18 of which came in the second half as the City Council-based dribblers climbed to third place in a tie with Top Agro Products with 3-1 record.
VMO played its second back-to-back game in the tournament but had a little troubles against the PNP squad leading as much 18 points halfway of the third period.
Carlos Salinas and Marvin Mondigo scored 13 and 12 points respectively for VMO which was coming off from a blowout win against Playsite on Saturday night.
The Policemen were simply outran and outgunned by the VMO five who played tremendously in both ends of the floor.
Resty Go paced the PNP with 18 points.
Meanwhile, General Services Office (GSO) defeated BLBE Auto Shop, 69 – 67, to keep its final four hopes alive.
GSO leaned on Noy Pido who poured in 15 points, mostly crucial shots, to clinch its third win in five games and take the fifth spot in the standing.
BLBE absorbed its third setback in five outings despite superb showing of Bambi Santander and Nick Serafica.
In the other match, Goldstar Hardware remained its strong hold in the top spot with a 90 – 87 win against Playsite earlier in the day.
Winston Lim fired 18 points as Goldstar grabbed its fifth win in six games.
The tournament, presented by Phoenix Petroleum Philippines Inc. and organized by Vice Mayor’s Office through the intiatives of Christopher “Bong” Go, is sanctioned by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas Mindanao Cluster B under Regino “Boy” Cua.
