Girl, 16, lands in hospital after shot by motorcycle-riding robbers

A 16-year-old girl was wounded when robbers shot her on the hip without apparent reason at 9:15 p.m. on Monday in San Lorenzo Village, Puan.

The attack came four days after a 23-year-old nurse was gunned down in a robbery incident in Paciano Bangoy, Agdao District over the weekend.

Supt. Dionisio Abude, station commander of the Talomo Police Precinct, revealed that Shanner Adlaon and her mother, Zenaida, were on their way home on board a tricycle when the robbers blocked their way and declared hold-up.

Zenaida surrendered her bag which contained P11,000 and other documents. But before the robbers escaped toward crossing Puan, they shot the teenager on the hip. The victim was brought to the Southern Philippines Medical Center.

Zenaida described the driver as heavyset while the driver was in his early 30s, 5’4” in height, slim built, with dark complexion and big round eyes.

On Feb. 18 around 11:00 a.m, Marjorie Kwan was walking home when two men on a motorcycle grabbed her bag. They shot her four times, which resulted to fatal wounds and a shot on the head.

Police are already following a lead on the killers, whom Supt. Ronald Lao, station commander of Sta Ana Police Precinct, claimed were under the influence of illegal drugs.

Sr. Supt. Ronald Dela Rosa, Davao City Police Office chief, said that if illegal drugs are eliminated, “70 to 80% of the crimes will be solved.”

“Their purpose is to get money. They will kill the victims if they are cornered or identified. But if they kill the victim for small amount, it’s likely that they are high on drugs,” he said.
