A 27-year-old man was charged with robbery with homicide before the City Prosections Office last Jan. 31.
Bernard Onin was formally charged with robbery with homicide after he allegedly robbed and stabbed 30-year-old businesswoman Maricel Mahusay inside her rented apartment located in Shanghai Village, Matina Aplaya. Prosecutor Retrina Espe Fuentes recommended no bail against the suspect who is under custody at the Talomo Police Precinct.
Based on the investigation by the Talomo Police, Onin was seen by witness Albert Medrano hurriedly leaving Mahusay’s apartment with a gray bag around 11:40 p.m. of Jan. 25. He claimed to have heard a scream for help before going outside.
Medrano and his neighbors gave chase until they finally caught up with him near the garage of the Maligaya Taxi company in Matina Aplaya.
The suspect who was mauled by several taxi drivers was later endorsed to the Talomo police along with the bag in his posession which allegedly contained assorted jewelry owned by Mahusay. The stolen items included four bracelets, a gold necklace with pendant, a gold wristwatch, and a silver ring with a total value of P50,000.
Meanwhile, Mahusay was rushed to the nearest hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival due to multiple stab wounds in the different parts of her body.
