Apo Golf and Country Club and Davao City Golf Club registered similar first runner-up honors on their respective divisions at the close of the 36th Philippine Airlines Interclub Seniors competition held over the weekend.
Apo Golf led by team manager Billy Parilla which served as one of the host in this year’s tournament, settled for the runner-up honors in the Founders Division with 523 points (142-117-123-141), only a point behind champion Manila Golf which finished with 524 (128-144-127-125). Rancho Palos Verdes Golf and Country Club which was also the other host this year landed sixth with 508 (129-123-129-127).
Davao City Golf Club shared that similar feat behind champion Fil-Am Hawaii in the Sportswriters Class. The Matina-based club had 473 total points (110-115-127-121) for first runner-up honors with Fi-Am Hawaii bringing home the title with 479 (124-112-136-107).
Lanang Golf, the other local squad settled fourth place on a 463 (121-105-121-115) tally.
Mindanao’s newest club to enter the Interclub, Philsaga finished their debut at eighth spot in the Championship division where Canlubang Golf and Country Club emerged as champs. Atty. Larry Pasquil’s wards who mostly are veterans of the annual golfing spectacle had 478 points (127-117-116-118) in their initial stint as a group.
All five city-based squads are now gearing up for the men’s regular competition which unfolds February 23-26 at the same venues.
The platinum sponsors of the 65th PAL Interclub are Mareco Broadcasting Network, Radio High, Stargate Media, Media Five and GE; while the major backers are Asia Brewery, Business Mirror and Airbus.
